Kevin Hart is a filmmaker's dream! Starring in his first film of the year (alongside Tika Sumpter and Ice Cube) Kevin Hart is raking in the moolah for the movie Ride Along. Ride Along decimated the box office this weekend over its rivals Lone Survivor and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, by bringing in a whopping $47 Million! Lone Survivor brought in $23.2 Million and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit brought in a measly $17 Million (it cost $60 Million to make).

If you're unsure what Ride Along is about well here's a little break down:

For the past two years, high-school security guard Ben has been trying to show decorated APD detective James that he's more than just a video-game junkie who's unworthy of James' sister, Angela. When Ben finally gets accepted into the academy, he thinks he's earned the seasoned policeman's respect and asks for his blessing to marry Angela. Knowing that a ride along will demonstrate if Ben has what it takes to take care of his sister, James invites him on a shift designed to scare the hell out of the trainee. But when the wild night leads them to the most notorious criminal in the city, James will find that his new partner's rapid-fire mouth is just as dangerous as the bullets speeding at it.

Kevin Hart and Ice Cube have been doing the press tour for this movie for at least a month now and it seems as though their strong efforts have paid off! Kevin Hart is no stranger to the box office: Let Me Explain, grossed a little over $10 Million in its opening weekend. Overall its domestic gross (USA) was over $32 Million, while its foreign gross was over $73 Million. He's co-starred in other films that were hits as well: Think Like a Man grossed over $32 Million in its opening weekend. Even with all his success Kevin Hart is still humble and down to earth, a trait that is usually lost in most people who achieve his success. In an interview with Vibe Kevin Hart said,

"I laugh all the time because I can't believe where I am in my career. The fact that I have yet to really acknowledge and embrace it is what keeps me motivated to do so much more."

Disney's Maleficent has a new trailer and its visually stunning but the real stand out is Angelina Jolie playing the role of Maleficent. She is dark, mysterious, and evil. But despite her evil nature you are instantly drawn to her beauty and mystery. I like the fact that they took a different route with Sleeping Beauty. They went from the point of the villain and gave insight into her and played the movie with her as the focal point. Which I thought was absolutely BRILLIANT!

Here is the full plot of Maleficent:

Maleficent explores the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent (Jolie) cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king's newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora (Fanning) is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.

There is a new movie coming out in February called Repentance. Its about a man who reinvents himself as a self help guru. He helps a man with psychological issues whose trying to deal with the death of his mom, not to mention the fact that his wife and child have left him alone in the bayous of Louisiana. Its a crazy trailer and I can't wait to go see it. Its a predominantly black cast in a horror/thriller style film. This strange to see because there aren't very many films with all african american casts that are under the genre of thriller/horror. So Repentance is going to be a great movie scary but good. Years after a drunken car crash that almost took his life, Tommy Carter has reinvented himself as a therapist/spiritual advisor who advocates a synthesis of world religions and positivity. He's parlayed this vocation into a successful book release that one day draws the attention of Angel Sanchez, a profoundly troubled man fixated on the "untimely" death of his mother. When Carter takes on Sanchez as a personal client in an effort to raise funds for his indebted brother Ben, things quickly take a turn for the worse. Angel needs much more than a simple life coach. What may be simple to grasp for some is the idea that single actions in the past comprise tidal waves of reactions in the present. This film examines these issues against a backdrop of kidnapping and murder.

This film is really interesting to me. I love psychological thrillers like this. It stars Anthony Mackie, Sanaa Lathan, Forest Whitaker, Nicole Ari Parker, and Mike Epps.



Repentance hits theaters February 28th.

This movie is the sequel to The Raid. If you've never seen The Raid its an awesome action sequenced movie straight out the gate its high octane action packed. I loved every minute of it. It was gritty and strong. Here's the plot for The Raid: Redemption via IMDb:

In Jakarta, Indonesia, Lieutenant Wahyu organizes the invasion of an apartment building that is the safe house of the powerful and cruel drug lord Tama and his gang. The SWAT team breaks in the building but one lookout sees and warns the gangsters and the police force is trapped on the seventh floor. They learn that Lt. Wahyu has not informed his superiors about the operation. Now the police officers have to fight with limited ammunition against the armed and dangerous gangsters.

Now the sequel is out and I am absolutely speechless at the trailer. It looks awesome and I want to see it in theaters on the big screen! The trailers below are so surreal. The fight scenes are amazing. Its crazy how well choreographed these scenes are. I'm excited, shocked, and so ready to see this film! I can't wait until it comes out. Here's the plot for The Raid - Retaliation:

It starts where the first film ended, with Uwais’ character going undercover and infiltrating the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.
