Shots Fired! Mark Wahlberg's Calling it Like He Sees it!

Mark Wahlberg has a movie coming out on December 27th called Lone Survivor. It tells the TRUE story of a small 10 man Navy SEALS team and “Operation Red Wing”, the failed 2005 mission in which they were sent into Afghanistan on an impossible mission to capture or kill a high Taliban operative one of Osama Bin Laden's close men. Things go awry when the small band is ambushed by overwhelming enemy forces. Rumor has it that this film is Academy Award worthy (Like Zero Dark Thirty, The Hurt Locker, Jarhead, etc).

But this new movie isn't the only reason Mr. Wahlberg is in the news. Mark Wahlberg was recently interviewed at a early screening of his new movie and was asked about the rigorous training, fitness regimes, and hectic schedules they keep. Mark went on a tangent about actors and their comparisons to the "Real Deal". Here's what he said via Moviepilot

For actors to sit there and talk about ‘oh I went to SEAL training’? I don’t give a f-ck what you did. You don't do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as being in the military? How f-cking dare you, while you sit in a makeup chair for two hours.

People began to wonder who Mark was talking about specifically. Tom Cruise's name was thrown into the mix. In light of the reason headlines of Tom Cruise and his alleged deadbeat dad status, its being reported that the shots were fired at Tom. However this is not true. Tom Cruise has been taking some serious heat lately for the information in he and Katie's divorce papers. Katie and Tom's dirty laundry has been plastered in every weekly magazine and filthy tabloid for the last 2 weeks be it true or not. The papers describe a lawyer making a statement comparing Tom Cruise's hellacious movie schedules and extended time away from his daughter to a U.S. soldier who is or has been in the war and away from their families for extended periods of time. Tom also added that being in the movie Oblivion was like being away at war.

Mark denies that the rant was specifically directed at Tom Cruise. He says:
“I didn’t know that Tom Cruise was the one who said that,” the 42-year-old Wahlberg told the gossip site. “I love Tom Cruise.”
Mark says that he did mean what he said about actors and actresses in general. But he did apologize for the strong language and the insinuation about Tom Cruise. He just feels passionate about respecting the Armed Forces and the hard jobs that they do.

Here's my thing:

Actors are in a very demanding, life consuming career. They are constantly on the move doing something appearances, filming movies, preparing for a role, red carpet events, etc. They are constantly being pulled in fifty directions, with thousands depending on them to feed their families. I can understand how it would feel like there are not enough hours in the day as well as an immense amount of pressure. I can also see the analogy that Mr. Cruise made between his lengthy time away from his daughter and a soldiers lengthy time away from their daughter. The only difference is these Soldiers are in fear every single day of dying and sending home only a pair combat boots, a rifle, and flag. So all in all I would say Tom Cruise just had a poor choice of words. I'm sure he meant no disrespect but its the nature that it was delivered that might give people a reason to pause and say "Did he really just say that?"

In regards to Mark Wahlberg I think he was just passionate about the topic. The military, 9/11, and the president are hot button issues here. You cant go anywhere bring up any of those topics and not have a weird awkward feeling because of all the eyes on you. Tom Cruise shouldn't have even went there. Being an actor is a privilege not a sacrifice. The Armed Forces make sacrifices to serve the our country and take care of their families everyday. Now don't get me wrong I don't snub my nose at actors or actresses. They work hard to provide the masses with entertainment. But understand that this was a choice that was made by these people. None of them are complaining about their paychecks and the privileges they receive because of their acting. So excuse me for not having much sympathy.
